COACHES DEVELOPMENT PLAN.

1          Aims

1.1       The Section aims to have a coherent coaching policy throughout all the teams and age groups with the aim of raising standards throughout the Club. This aim is to be driven by a Club Coaching Co-ordinator.

2          Recruiting Coaches

2.1       By its very nature, Mini Rugby attracts parents of players to the Club and a percentage of them take an active part as coaches or managers.

2.2       Other parents or senior players volunteer to be coaches throughout the youth age groups or at senior level, both men and women’s teams.

2.3       The Club Coaching Co-ordinator may come within the Club’s own ranks or be recruited from outside but should, ideally, hold at least a level 2 coaching award.

3          Coaching Structure

3.1       The coaching structure and the Club’s coaching ethos and methods will be under the control of the Club Coaching Co-ordinator in liaison with the Senior’s Head Coach.

3.2       The Men’s, Ladies’ and Colts’ teams will have a panel of coaches including a forwards and backs coach.

3.3       Each Mini and Junior team will have a senior coach and as many other coaches as can be recruited relative to the number of players in each team and without having too many which could cause confusion. The senior coach in each Mini/Junior team should have a coaching qualification of at least level 1 and the other coaches of Tag or Start Rugby level.

3.4       The Club Coaching Co-ordinator will hold a “coach the coaches” session every two months that all coaches are encouraged to attend and the Mini and the Junior coaches should meet together at other times to ensure consistency of approach.

4          Coaching Awards

4.1       All volunteer coaches are to be encouraged and they are strongly recommended to attend coaching courses at an appropriate level. Development will then be by progression through the age groups and by advancing up the coaching “ladder” by attending further courses. Attendance at coaching seminars is also recommended.

5          Finance

5.1       In recognising the importance of coaching, particularly in the young age groups, the Rugby Section allows up to 100% of the cost of coaching courses to be covered by the Section but full advantage should be taken of any bursaries (Local Authority) available.
