Junior Rugby 2002/2003

UNDER 15s

The Under 15's squad started with only 8 players at the beginning of the 2001 / 2002 season but ended this season with 25 players who had regularly turned out for training on Wednesdays and Sundays. Three players have represented Hampshire at full U15 level against various counties including Devon. These are Andy Sims, Jamie McTaggart and Alex Cooke.

Trojans U15's won their first outing in the Hampshire Cup Plate competition beating New Milton 10 - 0 at home in a fiercely contested game. Both tries came in the closing minutes.

We were knocked out in the quarter finals by an immense Gosport & Fareham side, but managed to get the last try of the game to go down 15 - 5. Well done to Will Purkiss.

The U15 tour this year was to South Devon. This culminated in a fixture against Totnes who have been unbeaten this season and although losing 22-0, the lads did not stop attacking the Totnes line. The superb Totnes hospitality made the whole tour finish on a high. Well done to those who played and to the walking wounded !!

Such has been the improvement of all those taking part in this squad that we have had a number of companies looking to sponsor us as Under 16's next season.

Keep up the good work. Hampshire champs one day ? who knows ??

UNDER 14s

The Under 14s lost to Petersfield in  the final of the Hampshire Cup.

UNDER 13s

Pictured below are the Trojans rugby under 13s, winners of the Hampshire cup having beaten Winchester, who have received £250 from The Royal Bank of Scotland thanks to Ian Johnson, Operations Manager at Southampton Customer Service Centre for The Royal Bank of Scotland.

Ian is also the under 13s rugby coach at the Trojans and as a result of his involvement in his local club, he was able to apply for a Community Cashback Award.  The awards are given by the Royal Bank to staff who make a difference to their communities by fundraising for, helping or managing local organisations and charities.  £250 is awarded to those who, like Ian, regularly give up their time to help a local community group. From January to December 2002, the Royal Bank, injecting £1.1m back into local community organisations and charities throughout the UK, made nearly

4000 awards.

Nigel Sellers, the Youth Chairman of Trojans said, "We're delighted that the Royal Bank has recognised Ian's activities with Trojans.  The boys put so much hard work and effort into playing rugby, it's great to be able to provide new equipment for them from this award."

Ian Johnson added, "It's great that my employers are supporting my community involvement in this way. The money has helped the Trojan's get the new kit they wanted".
