THE 2004/2005 SEASON
The
2004/2005 season must go down as one of the most successful seasons for
many a year.
The
first team convincingly won the Hampshire Division one title by a clear
eight points with a match points difference of 242 against second placed
Sandown & Shanklin’s 72 points. A good run in the Powergen Junior
Vase saw wins against Verwood, Romsey and KCS Old Boys before being
stopped after the long slog to Wisbech. The strength of the Club was
illustrated by the fact that during this successful season 51 players
appeared for the first XV.
The
second and Third teams also had very successful seasons with the second XV
finishing in third place in the Hampshire Senior Merit Table and the Third
team finishing in fifth place in the Hampshire Merit Table Division One.
In both cases, the teams were playing Clubs with first teams in leagues
well above Trojans so these were fine performances indeed. Added to these
successes, the Club turned out a fourth XV, the first for many years, on
six occasions.
The
Women’s XV did very well to hold their own in South West Division One
and stood up to the travelling well! The highlight of their season was the
win against Plymouth Albion, at home, reportedly being the first defeat
for the Albion in 3 years – them declining promotion for a number of
seasons because of the travelling. In a further expansion move, an under
17 girls group was formed.
The
Academy again struggled a bit in the Colts League with a mixed age group
of players but had some successes, particularly the win against
Basingstoke. Some success was achieved at sevens being winners of the
Plate at the New Milton sevens and getting to the Plate final at Lytchett
Minster.
The
Juniors had some cup successes with the Under 15s beating Havant in the
Hampshire Cup Final and the Under 14s beating Petersfield in the Under 14
Plate competition.
Tours
were arranged for the Men to Antwerp, Dublin for the Women, and various
destinations for the Juniors.
