THE 2007/2008 SEASON The 2007/2008 Season will go down as a very good season.
The highlights were the 2nd XV winning the Hampshire Senior Merit Table, a significant achievement as five out of the eight clubs in the table have 1st XVs playing in higher leagues than Trojans 1st XV; the Under 14s winning the Hampshire Under 14 League Division 2 with an unbeaten record; and the Under 13s winning the Hampshire Under 13 Plate.
The 1st XV had a very satisfactory return to London 4 South West finishing 4th but having beaten London South Africa (promoted in 2nd place) twice – or three times if you count the game that went uncontested. The run in the Junior Vase ended with a 24 – 25 defeat by London Cornish who ended high in London 3 and a convincing end of season win against Tottonians (also high in London 3) showed that the team could probably have held their own in London 3 if promotion had been achieved. This is, in fact the highest league position so far achieved by the Club.
The 3rd XV ended 6th out of 10 in the Hampshire Clubs Merit Table Division One but with a creditable 69% record having played more matches than everyone else bar one. This is a tough table for the 3rds as 5 out of the 10 teams are club’s 2nd teams and all the rest are from clubs whose 1st teams are above in the leagues.
The Ladies team, having been promoted to the RFUW Championship South 1 (National Level 2), did well although nervously having to await the result of a re-arranged match elsewhere to see if they retained their place in this division – which they did. Although finishing 6th out of 8 they can reflect that they only lost one home game and didn’t lose at home to any of the top three teams.
The Colts finished 4th in their league but with the same points as 3rd place Basingstoke.
The Under 16s and Under 15s played in very strong leagues and finished 5th and 4th respectively. The Under 16s had a successful tour to the West Country and had excellent wins against Hayle and Camborne. They also won the Swanage & Wareham 10s tournament. Other touring teams were the Under 14s to Ireland and the Under 15s to France.
The Mini Section had their usual hectic season. At the Petersfield tournament the Under 7s reached the final of the Bowl, the Under 9s won their Plate Final, the Under 11s reached their final and the Under 12s won the Bowl final. At the New Milton tournament, the Under 8s and Under 12s both reached the Plate Finals. At Havant the Under 11s were the Plate Winners and the Under 10s the Plate Runners up.
Marie Hollingsworth, Sheree Crabb, Sally Greenway, Laura Bates, Helen Coyte, Stacey White and Ashley Rowlands all played for the Division. Helena Ventham, Marie Hollingsworth, Sarah Hodges, Daria Hinz, Sheree Crabb, Sally Greenway, Loiuse Joyce and Nikki Stevens all played for Hampshire as did Christopher Street at both Under 16 and Under 17 levels and Joshua Bowker and Grant Burr at Under 17.
Dave Strange achieved 100 1st Team appearances and Sally Greenway and Sarah Conlon achieved the same for the Ladies XV.
