Season 2008/2009
Under 12 End of Season Report
Trojans Under 12 squad concluded their mini rugby careers with a fine season. On a number of occasions we were able to field a full 13 man A team and a Development team on the same day and those numbers will be vital next year if we are to provide all players with regular matches.
The squad’s strength is up front and to compete next year there needs to be recruitment of greater strength in depth out wide to avoid playing a narrow game.
The highlights of the season were victory in the Trojans tournament and a fine 10-0 victory over our arch-rivals Havant in November. In actual fact the A squad remained unbeaten in competitive fixtures until the middle of February. The Development team played with great endeavour and were on occasion able to match other teams’ A squads.
The Hampshire Tournament was an odd affair with a group (or should that be a pair) of only two sides. We met Havant in the quarter final only to lose by a single try having only seconds earlier being inches from scoring ourselves and even on the Havant case being the better team. Havant went on to share the title. Throughout the contact years since Under 9 this squad has always been up with the very best in Hampshire and with hard work and commitment can continue to be so. Luke Frost was Player of the Year and his work rate and aggression is without equal perhaps anywhere in the County. This squad have been a pleasure to coach and I look forward to working with them at the 15 a side game |
