Under 7 End of Season Report

Wow!......

What a fantastic season!  It seems a long time ago when the coaches sat around the committee table at Trojans to set some goals for the season for us to aspire and aim for. 

The most important aspects included were to develop a strong team spirit, have fun and to lay some strong foundations for the children to ensure, where possible, they stay with Trojans for their full Rugby career.

A couple of good showings in the local tournaments and festivals would be nice but would not have been the end of the world as long as we had competed to the best of our abilities and learned from the games in order to develop further.

After a successful recruitment drive, we started the season with over 40 lively kids, many new to the game of rugby.  We have been lucky to have had fantastic support from our parents, several of who dusted off their boots to help on the pitch.  Our coaches worked hard to introduce the skills needed and explain the laws of the game!

The first Tournament experience for many of our kids was our own Trojans Tournament.  Showing fantastic team spirit and pure determination the U7’s left proudly as Tournament Champions having beaten Andover 4-3 in a very close final.

An interesting statistic was the try count; Trojans scored 28 tries and conceded only 7!

Next came the two Emerging Player Festivals held at New Milton and Havant. 

In both competitions our genuine emerging player teams battled hard and in both competitions qualified for the semi-finals of the main competition to be beaten in very close games by the eventual winners of the festivals.

 A credit to all the players and great result.

All the hard training really paid off when it came to the Hampshire County Tournament hosted by Portsmouth RFC in March.   The players put in an outstanding performances all day leading on to the final where they beat Winchester 7:4 in the final and be crowned “Hampshire Champions”. 

An amazing but well deserved achievement, one which will be remembered for a long time.

Still on a high, the team went on a “hunt the rugby club” competition on Easter Monday.  After we had gone through a maze of country lanes and farmers fields we eventually found the Overton festival.  Another outstanding performance from the players resulted in Trojans U7’s being announced Festival winners.

Two weeks later we took a strong squad to the prestigious Havant tournament and proudly left as semi-finalists of the main competition, knocked out by Alton by the odd try, the eventual tournament winners.

In the last festival of the season on the IOW nearly all the players were able to attend and put out two U7’s squads (Lions and Tigers).  Even here there was no stopping the boys and girl!  Both squads were worthy semi-finalists main competition of the Cup putting in solid performances.

In summary we have had an outstanding season winning 3 tournaments and being semi-finalists in 4 others. An amazing achievement!

As coaches we would like to thank the huge commitment of both players and parents alike.

The future is bright………..the future is Trojans!
