Under 9 End of Season Report

The transition to contact for U9 means a very steep learning curve and the guys equipped themselves extremely well. We had anticipated our numbers reducing in light of the change but we are delighted that our numbers have increased to a very strong squad of 27.

The Trojans tournament was a little too early in the season for our guys but they visibly grew as the Tournament progressed and finished with Trojans A winning handsomely against Eastleigh and Portsmouth in the last two group games. With so many fixtures cancelled due to the weather we were concerned about their development in a game scenario however this proved unfounded as we played fixtures against Portsmouth, Gosport and Fareham, New Milton, Tottonians, Petersfield, Bournemouth and Hitchin and we found ourselves unbeaten having scored 35 tries and conceding 5.

Following a very successful run in to the County we were very much looking forward to the challenge and the squad did not disappoint. Having come second in the group stages conceding just one try in a draw with hosts and eventual finalists Andover, we went through to the Quarter Finals to face a strong Havant side. A very, very tough game ensued and both teams fought tooth and nail to gain the advantage with superb tackling and rucking from both teams. Neither could find enough advantage to score and the game ended 0-0 with the harshest way to go home following the toss of a coin which the Trojans coach lost!!! Who says tails never fails!!. In short we drew against both finalists , conceded one try and went home early!!

Our Tournaments at Havant and the tour to the IOW were equally positive with the Havant squad losing in the semi final of the Plate and on the IOW one side reached the semi final of the Cup competition the other reached the semi-final of the Plate.

All the Coaches are justifiably proud of all the Trojans U9 who were an absolute credit to their club and came away from the Tournaments and Fixtures with a huge amount of respect from their opponents.
