THE 2010/2011 SEASON
What a season for the 1st XV!
The new league season did not start particularly well for the 1st XV, losing four of the first six games but from then to the end of the season only one league game was lost culminating in the top of the table clash away to Guernsey. This resulted in a 16-15 win, not quite enough to win the league but ensuring a play-off place. So, a six week wait before travelling to Aylesford and a nail biting win in extra time to gain promotion to London 1 South, the highest league position thus far achieved.
The Intermediate Cup was a little disappointing as, although proceeding to the London & SE 4th Round we lost to London Cornish who we had beaten twice in the league.
The 2nd XV played in a revamped Senior Merit table in which 5 of the 8 teams were from clubs whose 1st XVs were 1 or 2 leagues above. A slow start due to unsettled sides improved as the season went on and at the end of the league programme 6th out of 8 was the position. The league was then split into two competitions for the play-offs for the Cup and Bowl, the Bowl of which was convincingly won with 5 wins.
The 3rd XV struggled in their Merit Table coming 11th out of 12 but a 4th XV was put out on 9 occasions.
The Ladies 1st team, in the RFUW Championship South 1 League only won 1 of their first 10 games and were struggling at the foot of the table but a good run in to the end of the season saw them in a commendable 5th place out of 8.
The 2nd Ladies team, playing in the bizarrely names RFUW National Challenge South East West 3 League, did very well to come 3rd (equal 2nd) and brought on a lot of players new to the game.
The Colts started the season very well winning 9 out 10 (including friendlies) in the first half of the season and winning 5 out 6 of the first league games, the only loss being un unexpected one against the bottom team. But the tide turned against them and only one victory was achieved in the last 5 league games. Nevertheless, a mid-table position was a very good result. The under 17s got to the final of the 17s Cup only going down 8 - 15 in a closely fought match. The season was rounded off with success at the Lytchett Minster 7s where the Plate competition was won for the third consecutive year.
The Juniors teams all had good seasons with the Under 16s coming 2nd in the Under 16 League Division 2. The Under 15s gained a creditable mid-table position in the Under 15 League Division 2 and the Under 14s came 3rd in the Under 14 League Division 1. The 14s also won the Alton 7s. The Under 13s only lost 3 of their 16 games, one of which was in the Final of the Under 13 Hampshire Cup. The 13s also won the New Milton 7s.
