Trojans Golf Championship Wyn Jones has
played in all but one of the Trojans Rugby Championships and his
perseverance finally paid off when he won the Championship with 43
points
He and his team
mates of Patrick Lyons, Debbie Emery and Stu Good also captured the team
prize. Marty Pearson
collected the prize for the morning scramble on behalf of his team,
Billy Owton, Simon Williamson and Lee Foster. Youth was
again to
the fore with the nearest the pin (Martin Webb) but again experience tells on the longest drive (Eddie
Martin) |

5th June 2006
The news finally got out that Trojans
skipper, Mark Sharpe, went on as replacement on the full Hampshire side
against Oxfordshire on Sat 29th April to become the first Trojan's
County Cap since Paul McColgin in 1992.
Mark has been a loyal servant to the
County side for some years as Physio and was glad to step in when
needed. |

29th April 2006
The
Women's team didn't quite make it to the final of the National Shield
competition.
After a 5.30 am meet at the Club and a five hour coach journey with a
slightly weakened team (are you surprised at that time of day?) Trojans
Women were not able to do themselves justice and went down 42 - 0 to
Waterloo |
|
18th March 2006
 |
Tina Simpson became the
third women to play a hundred games for the Women's team, and the second
this season. This feat was achieved in the win against St Mary's OB in
March.
Tim Zeale gained his hundredth cap when he came on
as a replacement against Petersfield on 18th March 2006.
Tim has been a regular 1st teamer since 2001, has been at
or near the top of the appearance list each season and topped the 1st team
points list for the last three seasons. |
 |
|
4th March 2006
A unique occasion at Dorking
when Mark Sharpe played his hundredth game for the first team and John
Brothers played his two hundredth.
Mark, a
physiotherapist, played his first game in 2000 and has given excellent
service from scrum half and has captained the side this season.
John made his debut in 1996 and has given
equally good serve from the line-out in all 200 games. |
 |
|
 |
5th February
2006
Lynne Cantwell, a student in
Southampton, has made her mark in the Trojans women’s team since joining in
October. Her pace on the wing has made her the leading try scorer with nine
tries including five in the league game against Paignton. This is not surprising
as she has already won over 20 caps for Ireland and played in the recent defeat
against USA. She also played an important part in the 25-10 win over Spain – the
first Irish home win in the Six-Nations and only their second win against Spain. |
|
Mat Knight gained his 100th appearance for the first XV against Old
Wellingtonians on Saturday 7th January 2006. |

21st July 2005
The members of The Trojans Club and people
within Hampshire and well beyond were shocked to hear of the tragic and untimely
death of Derek Prout. Our deepest sympathies go out to Sally and all the family.
He will be sorely missed by his family and all the friends he made from his
illustrious rugby playing career.
He played 41 times for Cornwall between 1960
and 1969 and played for England against Wales and Ireland in 1968, having played
for England Schools in 1961. He joined
Trojans in 1971, was Captain of the Club in 1976/77 and was presented with his
honours tie (100 1st XV games) in 1981. An inspiration to all he
played with and a great Trojan. |
 |
|
 |
18th July 2005
The
Trojans Club send their best wishes to LeRoy Angel on his election as President
of the RFU, only the second man in Hampshire to have that honour. Although a Winchester Club man LeRoy has many friends at
Trojans and has been a regular attendee at dinners.
His
place on the RFU Council as the Hampshire Representative will be taken by Neil
Hagerty, ex chairman of competitions. This means that the the RFU representation
is "coming home", Neil being a Trojan member. The significance of this
is that, until LeRoy's appointment the Hampshire RFU Rep had always been a
Trojan although LeRoy has always been considered an "honorary" Trojan. |

June 2005
Trojans Golf Championship
Tom Mabey follows
in his father's footsteps by winning the Golf Championship that Dad won a few
years ago. Tom finished the
afternoon Stapleford with 44 points just ahead of past champion Grant
Woods on 43.
Meanwhile Les
Mabey, picks up the afternoon team prize on behalf of himself, Tom
and Trevor Betteridge.
Youth was also to
the fore for the longest drive (Ed Boyd) but experience always tells on
nearest the pin (Mike Morris)

The last person to achieve this feat was Stu Good in 1997 and, in fact, there

16th January 2005
Alex
Kehoe (nee Capener) has been confirmed as being the first Trojans' women's

In

for Trojans since she joined in 1997 at the start of Women's rugby at the Club
- and she celebrated with a try in the tough draw.
The
delay in recognising this honour was due to the fact that no-one had
really counted before and now that has been done!
Well
done Alex. |

21st May 2003
The
Trojans rugby under 13s have received £250 from The Royal Bank of
Scotland thanks to Ian Johnson, Operations Manager at Southampton Customer
Service Centre for The Royal Bank of Scotland.
Ian
is also the under 13s rugby coach at the Trojans and as a result of his
involvement in his local club, he was able to apply for a Community
Cashback Award. The awards are given by the Royal Bank to staff who make a
difference to their communities by fundraising for, helping or managing
local organisations and charities. £250 is awarded to those who, like
Ian, regularly give up their time to help a local community group. From
January to December 2002, the Royal Bank, injecting £1.1m back into local
community organisations and charities throughout the UK, made nearly 4000
awards.
Nigel
Sellers, the Youth Chairman of Trojans said, "We're delighted that
the Royal Bank has recognised Ian's activities with Trojans. The boys put
so much hard work and effort into playing rugby, it's great to be able to
provide new equipment for them from this award."
