2007 Trojans Rugby Golf Day

 

44 Trojans golfers gathered early at East Horton on 15th June for bacon butties before the 13th Annual Tournament got underway. The morning 11 hole Texas Scramble started in fine weather but players then got a little bit damp after a couple of hours of, at times, torrential rain! One comment overheard on the 7th fairway was "if this hadn't been organised by rugby players we would be back in the clubhouse by now!"

 

Some were clever enough to have brought a change of (golf) clothes but the others squelched through lunch and bravely marched out for the afternoon 18 hole Stapleford. However, Angus must have said a prayer for the afternoon turned out to be warm and sunny and the morning was soon forgotten. By the time the evening dinner was underway only the good bits were remembered. The presentations were made by Neil Hagerty who must have seen a weather forecast as he had made himself unavailable for the actual golf!  But, overall, it was another great day -and thanks go to Stu and Neil  for the organisation.

Jon Wilson (a cricketer but we won't hold that against him!) won the 13th Trojans Rugby Championships with 44 points just pipping Patrick Lyons who scored 41 with Angus Aagard close behind on 40 pts.

 

The "Greenhalgh" team (pictured) won the prize for the morning scramble and Les Mabey's Team took the afternoon team prize with 110 pts.

 

Stu Good (pictured) won the nearest the pin competition and Patrick Lyons got the longest drive. Wendy Greenhalgh fought hard to retain last year's position.

 

The senior (rugby playing) members failed to make an impression and Keith Webb had a ripping round!
