Colts in touch at Havant

Havant rugby club held their now annual Deloitte Summer Touch Rugby tournament on 19th July.

Trojans entered two teams, the U/16s for this coming season, and a mixed colts and coaches team.

With 15 teams entered it was 3 groups of 5 for the league stages.

In group A the colts played as follows:

Trojans 5 - 1 Southampton TR        (Zack Harvey U15  2 tries,  Jack Rowlands 3)

The lads got into the contest at speed and had a good win with help from an under 15 player.

Oakmedians "old gits" 0 - 5 Trojans     (Jack Rowland, Dan Lynch, Calum Hall, Matt McTagart, Josh Bowker)

A friendly game with some older players who may not have the legs but definitely had the brains. good work by the whole squad and good use of subs made for a strong win.

Ineos 1 - 4 Trojans     (Elliott Culley, Jack Rowland, Chris Street 2 )

Teams were now realising the Trojan potential and serious contention was the order of the day by Ineos.

Again older players with no legs but brains but also some street wise play to the referee. Attention Rich Rowland for the 2 minute sin bin. Never the less the young players showed how to be calm and to be street wise as well.

Green Dot All Stars 1 - 6 Trojans    (Dan Lynch 2, Matt McTaggart, Josh Bowker, Jack Rowland, Calum Hall)

With the squad playing some absolutely brilliant attacking rugby and the prospect of  being group winners, some of the squad were tiring and a strategy was required for defence. Bring on the coach with the brain and voice to lead the defensive line, Mandy Baverstock, to show the way to defend.

As group winners and through to the cup knock out competition.

Quarter Final

Trojans 2 - 1 Botley Crocs A     (Dan Lynch, Jack Rowlands)

A hard fought win against a specialist 7s team. With some strong rivalry between players this was going to be a game to win. Last year some undercover crocks, known as the B team , but known to us as Trojans, won the competition, so this was to say the least a highly contested game with the youth in Trojans again showing older players how to behave when losing.

Semi Final

Trojans 2 - 1 Havant     (Elliott Culley 2 )

The home team were looking to take on the competition sponsors in the final. Out came their main team with a physical approach to the game. Some hairy moments but a good try got Trojans underway, then immediately let Havant score. Some silly argie bargie and both teams were without a player for 2 minutes (not our fault). Again more argie bargie but the lads had listened to the coaches and showed how to answer, with a try to finish off the home team and get through to the final.

CUP FINAL

Deloitte 1 - 4 Trojans   ( Josh Bowker, Dan Lynch, Elliott Culley 2 )

After playing as a squad all day, and using subs properly, the team had the energy and desire to win. The Deloitte team obviously were up for their competition but class, discipline and training were too much for them.

The squad all played their part in attack and defence and wore down the opposition only allowing a try at the final whistle.

Well played, Matt McTaggart, Dan Lynch, Jack Rowlands,C alum Hall, Josh Bowker, Elliott Culley, Chris Street, Rich Rowlands, Mandy Baverstock.

Coach Tony Hall

The cup now resides in the cabinet at the club and each person was awarded a tankard.

The Trojans U16s

Group B

Havant 2 - 1 Trojans                          ( George Watts )

Southern Co-ops 0 - 3 Trojans             (Charlie Clay, George Watts, Dan Jack)

Trojans 5 - 0 Deloitte Reading              (Charlie Clay 2, Zack Harvey 2, Dan Hudson)

The under 16s played very well in their first time at the competition. They went through to the Cup knock out stage were they met a feisty Havant team (read the comments above) who beat them but with no disgrace.

Well done for going through as group winners.
