2011 Trojans Rugby Golf Day

The 17th Annual Trojans Rugby Golf day was, to say the least, rain affected! The weather forecast (correct for once) and the nearby cricket test match meant late withdrawals resulting in only five teams arriving for their bacon butties despite the best efforts of organisers Stu Good and Neil Hagerty.

Actually, the morning Texas scramble went off well with only a little shower to dampen the win by Dave Boyd's team of Dave Boyd, Ed Boyd, Jake Lovett and John Wilson.

The afternoon Stapleford was very different, however, with continuous rain all afternoon. So much so that three of the five teams gave up after ten or eleven holes. The only teams to complete the course were Stu Good with Wyn Jones, Stefano Centolla and Rob Scurfield and the winning afternoon team of Colin Thomas, Angus Aargard and Ed Carroll.

The nearest the pin and longest drive prizes were not awarded as not enough players reached the appropriate holes! Nevertheless, the 2011 Trojans Golf Champion Trophy was won by Colin Thomas.

Spirits were raised at the evening dinner by stories of the day which included the buggy that crashed into a tree because it didn't have windscreen wipers; the buggy that did a spectacular doughnut going slowly down a slight decline; and, on the infamous 17th (across the lake where a lot of people usually lose their balls) where someone managed to leave his ball on the tee and launch his five iron into the middle of said lake! [names omitted on purpose to protect the idiots innocent]
