A robust prop, Chris
played 380 games for the Trojans 1st XV, the second highest in the
history of the Club. His commitment to the Club is legendary as can be
seen by his record. He was Club Captain in 1961/62, 1966/67 and 1968/69;
Rugby Chairman in 1969/70, 1970/71 and 1985/86; Fixture Secretary from
1975 to the present day; and International Ticket Master, it seems, for
ever.
He also loved to played cricket for the Club
although he always admitted that he wasn't that good! However, in the
early 60s, a Third XI was formed with ex Hampshire cricketer Jim Bailey
as captain and Chris as his vice-captain. Know as the Wanderers, the
purpose of the team was to give youngsters a chance and that is what
Chris carried on doing when he later captained the Wanderers for a
number of years.
He will be sorely
missed. |
