Hampshire v Sussex Won 24-0

The first match for Hampshire started slowly with the team getting used to each other with few scoring opportunities but the territory largely dominated by Hampshire for the first 10 minutes. During this period the Hampshire pack showed its dominance and soon after following good field position the first try was scored by a powerful forward drive off the base of a ruck.  A further try was scored before half time again by the forwards from a well establish position in the 22.

The second half carried on in the same vane as the first with two further ties by the forward again from powerful drives close in the 22, a further try was scored by the backs to complete the scoring when the scum half broke from the base of a ruck to score in the corner, two of the tries were converted.

Scorers:  Anne Marie Warner 1T, Sheree Crabb 1T, Daria Hinz 1T, Helena Ventham, Sarah Hodges & Daria Hinz share 1T, Sally Greenway 2C.

Hampshire v Essex Won 7-5

This was a much harder contest with both teams using their powerful forwards to try to establish a platform to play from; this was hampered by the continued increase in the wet and cold weather. Hampshire scored first with a break by the scrum half out wide who broke the defensive line she was supported by the centre who accelerated away from the cover and beat the full back to score under the posts, the try was converted. Soon afterwards Essex establish good field position in Hampshire’s 22 and following a number of phases managed to power their way over for a good try by their forwards, the conversion was missed however.

There was no further score to the game but this belied the efforts of both teams to try and play positively in poor conditions. The second half was a continuation of the forward battle for dominance and good work was done by all the pack as they dominated in the scrums and lineout whilst being down 14 players through out the whole of the second half.

Scorers:  Sally Greenway 1T, 1C.
