Trojans Ladies 2nd XV make a flying start

The 4th October 2009 saw an historic event at the Club when a Ladies' 2nd XV played their first full game.

Whilst the 1st XV were travelling all the way to beat Plymouth Albion 22 - 15 in the Championship South 1 League (level 2) the 2nd XV played their first game in the RFUW South Friendly League and won 34 - 0 against Trowbridge. This league is designed as an introductory league to enable teams to get started before joining the leagues proper. As far as this Club is concerned, it is an important step in allowing ladies new to the game to start at an appropriate level and, perhaps, those who have played at a higher level to continue to play a few more seasons.

It was a splendid game and a very good win for Trojans Ladies who were playing their first game together. Team Captain Alex Kehoe had been pulled into the 1st XV so Mandy Baverstock took on the role and used her experience to marshall the newcomers well and it was great to see Laura Wright grab a hat trick in her first game. The strength of the Ladies set up was further illustrated by the support of the three coaches Jade Roots, Joe I'Anson and Richard Sparkes (the other three coaches had gone to Plymouth!).
