. Trojans Youth Support of Cancer Charities
The Hetts Walk for Leukaemia 11th Oct 2008
All 5 Hetts, David, Sally, Marcus, Toby, Georgia and Luke completed
the Botham charity walk around Windsor Great park on Saturday 11th October -
all 8 miles of it. Rumour has it that a couple of the children forged on
ahead managing to run the last mile and still go out in the evening - no
doubt leaving mum & dad safe on the sofa!
Trojans Youth on just one Sunday morning and with the generosity of
the spectators helped raise £450. This all went towards the grand total - a
staggering £10,200!!!
All of the Hett family and of course the Uglows and especially brave little Ollie have been extremely touched by your generosity. It has been inspiring for all of them, particularly this week when Ollie has not been feeling so well. Thanking you from the bottom of our hearts, x
Good effort from the Hetts and thank you for all your support.
Trojans Youth Chairman cycles for Cancer research 2nd October
2008
It came as a timely opportunity following Ollie Uglows (Trojans
U9) diagnosis and the loss of a close family friend, to take part in a
cycle across France. 500 miles in relay between 4 of us over 3 days.
First I had to get a bike!! Ride completed please read my report
Friday Morning
Up at 5.30 (no one told me that part). Clad in padded lycra and
never feeling more attractive we set out in the pouring rain, pitch
black and cycled through the WW1 memorial area. 191 miles
and 12 hours later we reached Epernay. Cold Cold
day with many frozen parts
Stats are:
Each of us did 4 stints on the bikes and spent at least 3 hours in
the saddle
I climbed a 500m hill (losing the will to live half way up)
Nearly cried once
Swore multiple times at myself and my team mates!
I found a muscle I never new existed and still not sure if I would
let a physio near!
Saturday morning
Up again at 5.30 but this time the weather was kind to us but the
1st hill wasn't - fortunately not my leg!
Hooked up with Karen as my cycling partner and got the mama mia tape
out. Our singing started and our road side entertainment began. We
timed each chorus to perfection when the cyclist passed by to keep
their spirits up and kept warm by doing aerobics!! Today was good
Sunday morning
Awake at 5.30. Still over 150 miles to go and it was supposed to
be hilly. Another climb but with the reward of a 1000m descent at 30
miles an hour - life was good. We kept up the singing and had
various groups joining in with us in the aerobics classes! We
finished at 4.45 in a beautiful area of the Alsace region.
My return
My body has held up - much to my surprise, but as a result of not
only a cough and cold that manifested itself on Thursday, but the
above entertainment, I finally lost my voice - I believe my car
mates might have wished for that earlier !!
My group raised over £1600
Many Thanks to all my friends and all those at Trojans for all your
support
Well done, Laura!
