The Dan Surtees award

The TROJANS YOUTH SECTION ANNUAL DINNER DANCE was held at the beginning of May at Chilworth Manor. This year’s dinner dance was well attended and a hard core of 40 people were left to dance until 1am. In the process of having good food, company and dance approx £500 was raised to put back into the Youth Fund. Thanks go out to John & Mandy McCormack who organised the event and thanks to all those who donated prizes.

Special thanks also went out to the managers, who help make things happen and keep the coaches in line.

During the evening it was thought appropriate to present the Dan Surtees Award. Laura Self, Youth Chairman presented the award.

‘This is a very special award given to a person on an annual basis in recognition of his or her contribution and appreciation of their efforts during the last season.

The Dan Surtees Award came about after the Youth section was given some money by National Westminster Bank. This coincided with the tragic loss and death of Dan Surtees, the oldest son of Pete and Mary Surtees. Dan was undoubtedly on his way to being something special in rugby having represented Hampshire and England at Student level and was and still is held in high esteem here at Trojans and we wanted his memory to live on.

 We have many committed parents in our Youth section who devote a lot of their time and money into ensuring that things run smoothly and that the players are getting the most out of their experience with Trojans. This year the award is to go to someone who puts in many hours a week into her section and makes the rest of us feel exhausted watching. She is thorough, efficient and gets100% involved in every event in the club. For tonight’s event she has helped collect a variety of raffle prizes and was doing so from September last year!

This year the Dan Surtees award goes to Tricia Thompson, manager of the U15's.’
