25/09/2011 National Colts Cup, Ruislip v Trojans W 26 - 10
To bravely go....
After a long wait for Alex's alarm, or lack of, a brief flirtation with Gaelic football, a curtailed breakfast stop (thanks to Alex’s’ alarm) the Colts finally arrived to conquer strange new world, new civilisations, to Ruislip.
Playing against a blustery wind and the incline Trojans started brightly against a fast and physical opposition, dominating the game in all areas and spending most of the first period in opposition territory. The only problem - conceding more silly penalties than the National team, gifting possession to the hosts. Ts generosity gave Ruislip a half time 10 – 0 lead courtesy of a penalty and a converted interception try.
With the condition now favouring Trojans they took their first half dominance into the second and some astute positional kicking from Bobby Owen kept the pressure on Ruislip and Ts were soon rewarded with a try following a good forwards drive, a typical Dylan “twinkle fingers” Sanders charge and a neat lay off to Jack Groves.
Trojans sniffed blood, became more composed and remained camped in Ruislip’s’ half and with more fast direct team play and good support saw Hugh Roberts, Toogi Long and George Watts go over in quick succession, plus a near miss by Jonny Smyth, but let’s not dwell on that one !!! Ruislip rallied briefly but the damage had been done and Trojans held out for a 26 – 0 second half.
Hot off the press, well the Internet, Sevenoaks beat Medway, so it’s M3, M25 again but not quite as far as it might have been, so a volunteer needed to give Alex an early morning nudge next time, any takers ?
