COLTS MATCH REPORTS

18/10/2009   Tottonians   (A)   League L 6 v 36

Trojans started well with some good tackling. Marshall Pendersen was all over the park. The pressure in defence started off well, but Tottonians did make three overlaps on the wing, scoring three times, Trojans drift defence needed to improve.

Elliott Culley did well at full back making good ground, support was not always there, the backs attack play looked good, but some missed tackles let Tottonians through.

Trojans down to 14 players in the second half, which did let Tottonians through. If someone has got the ball, tackle the ball carrier.

Patrick Phillips had an awesome all round match on his first game of the season.

Man of the Match was Marshall Pendersen for making the most tackles and making good ground.

Conversions: Nik Wotton x 2

27/09/2009 Basingstoke (A) Friendly L 24 v 28

This was the one that got away. The match was played on Basingstoke’s new pitch, and on a fine sunny afternoon. Trojans had one substitute available, Basingstoke had numerous. Donald Kemp had a great game at hooker and tackling well. The score see-sawed both ways. Chris Street had an excellent match, putting some awesome tackles in. Nik Wotton and Marshall Pendersen looked good at 10 & 12.

Basingstoke started to go through their subs. Trojans used there one sub as Callum Rocks went off with two injuries, but managed to come back on. Tom Bryan and Bradley Hughes tackled their hearts out. The match could have gone either way, but ended up in Basingstoke’s favour. A brilliant all round effort. Player of the day was Donald Kemp at No2.

Tries: Chris Street x 2, Nik Wotton x 2, Neil McBride.

 Conversions: Nik Wotton x 2.

06/09/2009 Ellingham & Ringwood (H) Friendly L 5 – 10

The game was played in three twenty minute sessions. Trojans conceded a lot of penalties in the first third, mostly due to not listening to the referee, which improved in the last two thirds of the game against the run of play.

Jack Rowland kicked into the in goal area from which Danny Lynch scored a try. Danny pressured all throughout the match and had a superb game.

A bit of poor drift let Ellingham in for their first try. Greg Wood had a good game at scrum half, marshalling the forwards well. On occasions the forwards got isolated and conceded possession, but improved during the game. The forwards did well in the line outs. Some good tackling and throwing in by Neil McBride.

Ellingham scored another try due to possession being lost. Marshall Pedersen had an excellent solid game on his debut for the Colts at No 13. Bradley Hughes improved his play and tackling throughout the game.

Trojans heaped the pressure on in the last fifteen minutes and were unlucky not to score, but a massive improvement throughout the game. A good effort by everyone.

Try: Danny Lynch

13/09/2009 Portsmouth (A) League L 24 – 10

Unfortunately, Trojans did not start as well as they finished, or they may well have won this fixture. Trojans conceded in the first minute, but heaped the pressure on, with Marshall Pedersen almost going over shortly after the restart. The backs recycled the ball well, supplied the forwards by quick thinking from Nik Wotton, spotting an overlap on the far side, an elephant ball was called. Joe Carne recycled well, allowing the skipper Tom Magill to score.

Elliott Culley made good ground, Trojans recycled the ball well, but eventually lost possession with some wayward passes. Eddy Romilly put some superb hard tackles in. Jack Rowland pressured well at centre, stopping the opposition off loading the ball. Bradley Hughes was everywhere putting in tackle after tackle.

Portsmouth had Trojans on the back foot for most of the first half.

Daniel Thompson and Ronan Major tackled well, but we could not stop Portsmouth getting a second try after the first five minutes and with a few players going off injured, Trojans fronted up, Donald Kemp making some hard hitting tackles.

Portsmouth pressured our scrum, we lost possession too easily, the ball shot out with Portsmouth reacting quicker than us, and scored an easy try.

Lewis Vigor made good ground and territory in Portsmouth half. Chris Street also made good ground as the backs started to work better. Eventually the pressure paid off, allowing Joshua Bowker to power over for a well deserved try. A massive improvement in this second half, with aggression and pressure much more in evidence. That’s how to start our matches as well as end them. Man of the match was Bradley Hughes who showed a massive improvement from last week, a good finish to this game.

Tries:Tom Magill, Joshua Bowker.
