Trojans U15's Chiefs v Alton
Chiefs fail to score in critical league match.
Trojans 0 Alton 24
This was a critical match. A win would put Trojans a point behind the leaders at the top of the league. A loss would put them bottom. Unfortunately it was the latter in what turned out to be the only match this season where the boys failed to score.
They were embarrassed in the first half by an efficient and competitive Alton side. Trojans were under pressure from the start and Alton scored the opening try after 2 minutes. They passed the ball out wide following a scrum 5m out and took advantage of Trojans poor defensive organization with players not drifting across to cover the threat. Most of the play was in the Trojans half and the boys were reluctant to kick to relieve the pressure. The same wing was exposed again when Alton scored a good individual try from long range. A third try was conceded when the Chief's cover defence again went missing. Alton scored a forth try after following a good kick into the goal area. This made the score 0-24 at half-time. Christian was our only threat going forward, making a couple of penetrating runs from inside centre.
Ordinarily the Chiefs would make their way back into the game in the second half, but they were devoid of ideas and lacked inspiration. They failed to implement their game plan and panicked at times. Neither did they take the opportunities that were on offer, particularly squandering an excellent chance from a tap penalty 5m from the Alton line. They battled well however and their improved defensive work prevented Alton from adding to their score. Man of the match was Michael for another outstanding display at flanker.
