April 30th - Trojans U16 Close out season with Alton Festival win
Trojans U16 gain fine Cup win at Alton 7's festival
Trojans produced some of their best rugby yet running in 26 tries (vs 5 against) in the Alton 7's festival against a quality opposition field. On a fine Sunday morning, a strong Trojans team saw good wins throughout against Haslemere, Farnborough, Andover, Petersfield and Guildford. In the final against regular opponents at the business end Guildford, Trojans U16 produced one of their most impressive displays ever and ran in 8 great tries. An exhilarating showing by the whole squad.
This brings to an end a fantastic season for Trojans U16, 30 plus matches/ festivals, a great tour to Bath and one in which they ended the season as Hampshire County Champions (for the 3rd time). In the regular part of the season, Trojans Chiefs lost just the one game (in a tight last minute affair on the road at Andover) and Trojans Warriors also had a season of real progress despite a challenging fixture list. The Warriors, following promotion the previous season, defeated both Havant and Alton in the Hampshire 3rd Division League and had some fine wins and really promising performances in friendlies. A total of 43 boys regularly represented Trojans U16 regularly during 2016/17.
This also brings to an end 4 great years of Junior rugby for this particular group. It is an era in which we have managed to play 2 squads throughout those 4 years, including in Hampshire Competitions ; this is the first time this has been achieved either in the club or in recent years in the County. Through that time, a total of 13 have represented County (10 this season), a total of 10 have been participating in the National UR7 Sevens academy (8 this season), and 2 players are next year joining he ACE London Irish Academy programme.
We wish the whole squad a great Summer off from rugby and all the best going forward in their future rugby careers.
