On a wet and windy day we knew it was going to be a tough game, after losing twic before to Totts and being out done by their flying Fijian in th roast the only way we were going to win this game was to take him out of it.
Captain cool Oli Jarvis won the toss and elected to play with the wind behind us and to receive the kick.
The game started as we predicted lots of running and some big hits from both sides. Throughout the first half we were winning the scrums and all the ground work. A great team performance by both the forwards and back and we frustrated their players and kept the pressure on them. With a couple of minutes left in the first half Oli received a big hit and had to be removed from the pitch and thus Fin was asked to play in the full back position. First half Trojans had 80% of the possession and won 85%/90% of the scrums against the head.
Half time and it was no score from either side.
Second half kicked off and Totts received the ball they gave the ball to their star player and he ran the pitch and scored with only 60 seconds of the clock gone. The boys came back with heads held high and kept battling once again we were in Totts 22 and Rodrigo ran at the Totts defence and powered his way through and with a stretch of his arm was able to get the ball over the try line. Totts 5 v Trojans 5. More excellent work by our forwards kept the pressure on Totts and we were back in their 22 once again. Every breakdown and most scrums we owned and we were waiting for our rewards, then with 14 minutes gone in the second half Finn was able to make a break and surge through the Totts defence to score. Totts 5 v Trojans 10. It was not long until Totts came back at us. We were camped in their 22 and they passed the ball to the star player and he was held for a while then broke through some tackles and we allowed him to escape and stretch his legs and then he ran the entire length of the pitch to bring the scores level 10 - 10 with only 7 minutes to play.
Once again our forwards won scrum and breakdown 1 after another and our backs ran well and straight. With only 2 minutes to play we had another scrum just inside their 22 and Danny care, sorry I mean Mattis picked the ball from the back of the scrum and ran at the defence and was able to score another great solo effort. Now the score was Totts 10 - Trojans 15.
Now with only 60 seconds to play we ended up in our 22 and all we had to do was keep the ball. However under allot of pressure we decided to kick against the wind out of our 22 and unfortunatly it went to their key man and all he had to do was run 15 yards to score the equaliser. Totts 15 - Trojans 15
With a last play we ran back at Totts but the final whistle was blown and it ended up a 15 - 15 draw.
With out a doubt this was one of our hardest games to date and one of our best too. A true team performance from all the boys earned a draw and a share of the spoils. Both coaches thought that after such a fantastic game of rugby from both sides it was the right decision to share the title and the trophy.
Well done to Totts for a great game and a good bunch of boys and also a massive well done to all Trojan Blues who played in this game and all the games this season. You are a truly remarkable bunch of young men and all the coaching team are very proud of you.
All I need to do now is try and get some more medals from Hampshire.........
The future is bright the future is Blue!!!!
