Bromley (Sen Vase) 24th February 2018
Trojans out of the Vase
Trojan’s ambitions to reach the London and South West Division final of the Senior Vase came unstuck at Stoneham Lane where, again suffering from numerous team changes, they were convincingly beaten by Bromley. However, they were largely architects of their own downfall where the scorecard showed a 2 – 1 try count to Bromley but with five penalties scored against.
Trojans spent the first five minutes in the Bromley half but as soon as Bromley got into the Trojans half they were awarded a penalty on the ten metre line which was kicked. Trojans then camped in the Bromley half until, again, Bromley were awarded a penalty just inside the Trojans half but the attempt at goal hit the cross bar. On twenty minutes Bromley managed to get deeper into the Trojans half and, this time a penalty was successful with Trojans Elliott Culley receiving a yellow card. Bromley then maintained their attack and a good backs move resulted in a try in the corner, to give them an 11-0 half-time lead.
Bromley started the second half strongly with the Trojans defence looking a little rattled and, on five minutes scored under the post for an easy conversion. Trojans then sparked into life and strong running eventually saw fly-half Toogi Long dart through to score and kick the conversion himself. However, the Trojans revival didn’t last long and some poor handling and defensive errors allowed Bromley to take full control and, although they were prevented from crossing the Trojans line, a number of penalties were awarded and three were successfully converted to give them passage to the next round.
