Trojans started the game in a repeat of last week’s start when from the kick-off no 8 Alex Williams charged over the line within the first minute. From the kick-off, a good run by Joby Kochanowski ended with a tip-tackle and a yellow card for a Milton player, the first of six in the game, three for each team.
Although New Milton put some attacks together Trojans kept control and scored at regular intervals with some excellent open and tight play with scrum-half Neal Howarth getting the first try on the quarter hour. On twenty minutes Milton were on the attack but Trojans winger Charlie Pooley gathered a loose ball, sprinted to half way and chipped the defence to put Trojans back on the attack. From the ensuing open play captain Joby Kochanowski sprinted through to score under the posts with Toogi Long converting. On the half hour a strong Trojans attack was thwarted but a second Milton player was yellow carded. Trojans continued the open attacking play and, shortly before half time Howarth ran round the defence to score his second try, converted by Long. This gave Trojans a 24-0 lead and a first half bonus point.
New Milton started the second half quite strongly but Trojans returned to the attack forcing Milton to defend strongly but this resulted in their third yellow card. A line-out from the penalty awarded saw a great Trojans maul push the defence over the line with coach Rudi Kochanowski getting the touch down. Rudi was on the pitch as he had to step up to the replacements bench when prop Nanson pulled a muscle during the warm-up, but then received the first of the Trojans yellow cards. Another card was shown a few minutes later and yet another five minutes later. Thus for a short while Trojans were down to 12 men but the defence held firm against a number of Milton attacks then finally succumbed on the half hour, Trojans now with 14 men, when Milton put another strong attack resulting in an unconverted try.
