A titanic battle was seen at Stoneham between two strong running sides with Trojans finally coming out well on top with a bonus point win.
Trojans made a strong start and threatened the Old Tiffinian line and were awarded a penalty just in the OT 22. They opted for a scrum. The ball went right then Joby Kochanowski put in a great cross kick for left winger Charlie Pooley to gather and touch down. On ten minutes, OTs had a flowing backs move resulting in a penalty. They gained another penalty on the half hour after a period of attrition from both sides and the ding-dong battle continued until just on half-time when a flowing move from Trojans resulted in a speedy run down the wing by Tom Stevenson, beating the defence to run round to score under the posts giving Toogi Long an easy conversion.
Early in the second half Trojans centre Ben Fontaine made a crashing run into the OT half. A penalty kick to the corner gave Trojans a 5 metre line-out from which they mauled the ball over the line with Dave Linton claiming the touch-down. OTs hit back with a well worked try from a crosskick to their left wing. Up to the half hour play moved from end to end with each side scoring penalties, Long slotting Trojan’s. Trojans then started to get on top as OTs appeared to tire. Trojans opted for a scrum from a penalty awarded on the OT 22 and a quick ball saw Kochanowski slice through the defence to score with Long adding the extra points. As the half drew to an end, Trojans were on fire with plenty of interplay and a strong run from his own half by Jack Groves saw him stopped just short of the line but quick action resulted in the ball being spun out to Stevenson who sprinted over with Long again adding the extras.
