Old Emanuel Away
A bad day at the office
Trojans travelled up to New Malden to play the team sharing top spot in the league in some trepidation as a weakened team, due to injury and unavailability, showed 11 changes from the previous week with a number of new players and lower team players drafted in. And their fears were soon confirmed as Old Emanuel scored the first of their twelve tries within five minutes. The pattern of the game was then set with the home side scoring at regular intervals. Trojans, however, were putting in a number of attacks and, in fact, spent a lot of the time in the Old Emanuel half. But when an attack broke down Old Emanuel were quick to respond and their strong running backs took play deep into the Trojans territory to add to the score board. The pattern of play continued with Trojans gaining ground but this time, just before half-time, a loose Old Emanuel pass allowed Trojans to hack on and debutant centre Matt Burt continued the foot rush to get the ball over the line and drop on it for a try. The conversion in front of the posts was made by Toogi Long.
The second half saw Old Emanuel continue to pile up the points but, even so, the Trojans heads didn’t go down, still spending a lot of time in the Old Emanuel half, and battling as best they could against a very strong and well drilled side.
