Old Tiffinians Away 10th March 2018
Trojans took another weakened team up the M3 to Old Tiffinians and suffered the consequences although the attending players put in a great effort and the score didn’t really reflect that.
Trojans started well and spent the first ten minutes attacking in the Old Tiffinians half but without success. In contrast, the first time Old Tiffinians got into the Trojans half, some slick passing resulted in a try in the corner. For the next quarter of an hour play went back and forth with both sides showing attacking moves but mostly in the Old Tiffinians half with just an Old Tiffinians penalty to worry the scoreboard until a strong Trojans move with plenty of interplay resulted in fly-half Jack Rowland scoring to keep Trojans well in the game. However, Old Tiffinians hit straight back with a well worked converted try. Then, just on half time, Old Tiffinians stole a Trojans line-out on the half-way line and charged down the pitch to score a goal and make the half-time score 22 – 5.
Right at the start of the second half Trojans were well inside the Old Tiffinians half but suffered an interception allowing the Old Tiffinians player to run all the way to the Trojans line. Trojans fought back and had a number of good scoring opportunities only spoilt by last minute dropped passes or the referee not allowing advantage at crucial times. However, Old Tiffinians also put on the pressure and had a number of scoring chances, one of which they converted with a try, engineered by their forwards, mid-way through the half. The rest of the half was an even contest with both defences holding firm.
