Petersfield Home 03/11/18
By Peter Reid
A good win
Trojans had a convincing win against bottom side Petersfield but the visiting side put in a good second half performance.
Trojans made a strong start and soon got into the Petersfield 22 and from a maul a few metres out Patrick Gibbs slipped round the blind side to score in the corner with a good conversion by Chris Boyd. Trojans kept up the early pressure and Gibbs cut through to score again, with another Boyd conversion to put Trojans 14 – 0 up, all within the first five minutes. Petersfield then put some good moves together resulting in a goal to keep them in touch. For the rest of the half, despite the Petersfield forwards generally getting the better of the Trojans pack to give their backs some good ball, it was otherwise Trojans who had overall control with tries coming from winger Ben Rose, scrum-half Sam Walker and flanker Joe Milton, two converted by Boyd. So, a half-time bonus point lead of 33 - 7
Although Petersfield made a strong start to the second-half, Trojans soon got into the Petersfield 22 and a maul taken over the line resulted in Milton getting the touchdown for his second try and another Boyd conversion. So, with 40 points on the board and thirty minutes to go, it looked as though Trojans were set for a huge score but Petersfield had other ideas and put some good plays together to test the Trojans defence but not the score board, and with Trojans, perhaps, easing off there were no more scores.
