On February 20th, under bright blue skies at
Twickenham Trojans U9's qualified for the Grand Final day of the Harlequins
Etihad Competition
Despite having a tough start against last
year's Etihad Cup winners Rosslyn Park, Trojans U9's were delighted to end
the morning qualifying for one of the eight finalist positions.
24 teams took part in the Etihad semi-final
and through being one of the two best performing runners up from the 6
leagues, Trojans qualified along with the 6 group winners.
The U9 finals of the Etihad Cup, the largest
mini's cup competition in the South East will take place on April 3rd. |

11th February 2010
A strong performance by Trojans U10 in the
qualifying round of the Etihad Cup on Sunday February 7th saw them progress
from their round robin group to the semi-final stage. The semi-finals will
take place on March 6th at the Stoop, Twickenham.
Already qualified for that stage are the
Trojans U9 team who topped their group on December 13th above one of last
years Etihad finalists Sutton and Epsom RFC. Their semi-final is coming up
on February 20th.
The Etihad Cup run by Harlequins RFC has grown
in recent years to be probably the largest mini rugby -competition in the
South-East, with approximately 60 rugby clubs participating at each age
group over 8 qualifying days during the season. The Grand final take
place at the Stoop at the end of the season in front of a Premiership crowd |

7th February 2010
Trojans Rugby Club is both shocked and
saddened to announce the untimely death of Tony ‘Rocky’ O’Connell at an age
of 61 after suffering a heart attack.
Rocky was a stalwart member of The Club during the 70’s and early 80’s
before he moved to Fordingbridge where he founded their Rugby Club in 1984.
Rocky played well over 100 games for the 1st XV, initially as a
flanker and latterly as a prop. In 1977 he was made Clubman of the Year for
all his sterling work off the field in arranging many social events, in
particular the Annual Ball. He represented Hampshire in 1981.
Our
thoughts and condolences go to Christine, his wife, and his Children Paul
and Amy.
The
Funeral will be held at St Mary’s Church, Fordingbridge at 11.00am on Friday
19th February 2010.
This will be followed by refreshments at
Fordingbridge Sports Club. It is suggested that, because of a lack of
parking near the church, it might be advantageous to park at the Club and
walk to the church.
Fordingbridge
RFC has opened a Book of Condolences for Tony, see it here:
